Premise
Knowledge of magic is a rare gift. Furthermore, mages have little need for money but may have difficulty obtaining spell components; therefore, there is less financially offered in this allegiance contract than some others. However, as time progresses, the components themselves will become much more valuable. Furthermore, once some bugs have been fixed, access to a number of "Greater Path" spells, such as those dealing with portal magic or war volley spells, will become available. Milamber has the knowledge of how to cast these spells already, and these will become a hot commodity.
Requirements
Only mages of 5th level or greater are accepted. This is as much to prevent "throwaway" characters from gleaning secrets for other characters as to allow time for the fledgling mage to experiment and become sure whom they wish to pledge to.
Vassals agree never to reveal magic to non-Black Robe characters. Revealing information weakens the power of the magic for all.
Vassals agree never to reveal magic to their followers until they reach a minimum of level 5. This clause is provided so vassals could pledge without losing existing vassals. Accepting pledges from those below level 5 is still strongly discouraged.
Purpose of the Black Robes
Black Robes seek to make Dereth a safe land. Their sole purpose is to help the followers of Asheron rid the land of the Olthoi and bring peace back to this land. Therefore, they may party with anyone who is working to this purpose, requesting whatever their services might bring as payment.
Benefits to Being a Black Robe
All spell components will be provided at reasonable cost, including the rarer ones.
Initial funding will be provided to start a full suite of spell components.
Other benefits vary based upon the immediate lord.
All Black Robes may petition Milamber to solve grievances within the hierarchy.
Milamber provides knowledge of various spells, as well as forging allegiances that put large magical powers to use (such as coordinating an attack on a fort). Black Robes may then (at their option) take part in such large conquests to make Dereth a better place.
Most of all, Black Robes get to experience more Role-Play, and less hack-and-slash.
Benefits to Being a Direct Vassal of Milamber
Milamber provides a parchment listing the prize for attaining each level. This parchment must be redeemed to claim a given prize (at which time it is updated). Since the inscription cannot be changed by any others, it is a legally binding document in Dereth.
Milamber provides quests (sometimes as simple as a screenshot of a location, sometimes as difficult as finding a weapons with particular characteristics), with associated prizes.
