In some cases, you may experience problems due to having older versions of Fighter Ace II installed. This is especially the case if you have installed Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 or Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2, which include older versions of the Fighter Ace II software. In order to play Fighter Ace II, you'll need to upgrade to the latest version. Unfortunately, while this process is somewhat cumbersome, it ensures that you will be able to play the game without further difficulty.
First, uninstall the Fighter Ace II software:
- Click Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select Microsoft Fighter Ace II and click Remove.
Depending on how you are currently using the Internet Gaming Zone, some portions of Fighter Ace II may be left behind--they need to be removed.
Note: The second step is to remove these portions by deleting the Fighter Ace II program folder.
To remove the remaining portions of Fighter Ace II
- Click Start.
- Select Run.
- Type C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games into the box, and then click OK. This opens up your Microsoft Games folder.
- If you see the Fighter Ace II folder, click the Fighter Ace II folder to select it.
- Press the Delete key to remove the folder.
Restart your machine to complete the deletion.
Now, you can upgrade to the latest Fighter Ace II software.
- Navigate to /fighterace/downloads.asp.
- Select the Fighter Ace II Unresumable Download link.
- Select Save this file to location, and choose a location you can remember, like your Windows Desktop or My Documents.
- Navigate to the folder where you saved the Fighter Ace download, and double-click the Fighter Ace icon.
- Follow the installation instructions that appear on your screen.
