The chessboard is set: on one side sits world champion Garry Kasparov, and on the other, you with the rest of the world. One mind strategizing against many.
Here’s how the game works:
- Every other day, World Champion Garry Kasparov makes his next move, which is posted on the Today’s Move page at Noon Pacific Time. Kasparov’s first move (on June 21) was White (e4).
- The Analysts offer their recommended move and commentary on the game.
- On the day of Kasparov’s new move, you can vote for The World’s next move. Voting is open from Noon Pacific Time until 6 A.M. the next morning. Enter your vote on the Voting page.
- Votes are tallied at 6 A.M. the next morning. The winning vote is selected as The World’s next move. It is played against Kasparov at Noon Pacific Time.
- Kasparov’s next move is posted at Noon Pacific Time the next day. The cycle starts over.

Anyone can follow the match as it’s being played, but to vote for moves, participate in special chats, tournaments and other events, you’ll need to sign up for the MSN Gaming Zone. If you’re new to the Zone, find out more about our gaming services and get involved. Membership is free, and will give you full voting rights in the match against Kasparov.
