Rainbow Six has long been a favorite here on the Zone with usually well over 2000 players simultaneously enjoying what has been defined as the ultimate thinking man's first-person shooter.
Now Rogue Spear has come to the Zone. Is this game really just a sequel with small additions and graphical enhancements to capitalize on the success of Rainbow Six, or is it truly the next level in first-person shooters?
After we have played here at the Zone until the wee hours of the morning testing the lobby and game functionality, we can gladly shout a resounding YES! The two major areas players on the Zone asked for improvement in were graphics and artificial intelligence.
On the graphical end, you can now deal with weather conditions. The people appear to breathe and you can actually see their breath in cold climates. Players and terrorists alike will leave their footprints behind as they move through the snow. Completely improved damage and wound effects combined with new special effects for weapons, flashbangs and grenades make Rogue Spear a graphical treat never before experienced.
The artificial intelligence now will handle the tight groupings of the Rainbow Six forces more realistically. Greater as well as more varied responses from the terrorists are now possible. Take down a hostile enemy, and another may run to investigate, or maybe retreat to finish off the hostages before you can intercede.
Rogue Spear also offers full sniper support, sniper team member specialists, sniper weapons, such as the Barrett Model 82A1, and special planning and action phase controls for snipers.
For us multiplayers here on the Zone, you now have the ability to move while crouched and even peek around corners. We now have team arm patches to help us distinguish ourselves from our enemies, joystick support and even the ability to record our achievements! We can now review our missions and see what went wrong or send our greatest victories out to our friends who have Rogue Spear and let them watch how we kicked butt!
Red Storm Entertainment has gone beyond the extra mile in providing us with the sequel to Rainbow Six. They have provided us with the definitive thinking man's first-person shooter!
