TOTAL ANNIHILATION can be played using various strategies since it has over 75 units per side, and sea, land and air forces. With expansion packs, more than 245 units can be played. The following tips barely scratch the surface of what Total Annihilation offers, so check back soon.
Use layers of defensive structures as opposed to just a single thin line. Also, use Dragon Teeth to "direct" the enemy into your killing zones of layered defenses. Assign "safe" patrol areas for your construction Kbots or vehicles, and use this as a place to return your damaged goods to get repaired. Use the terrain to your advantage by placing your artillery units behind hills. Don't forget about the power of using your radar. You can attack units by clicking on the enemy blips and your units will fire, if within range, or head out to greet them. Pair a radar jammer and a mobile radar unit. Not only is your radar coverage extended but the enemy won't even know. Use multiple construction units to increase the speed of construction. A construction unit on guard or patrol will automatically help with any construction within its range. To automatically claim destroyed units for their resources, don't select them individually. Just set up a patrol along their path and the construction unit will do it automatically. A couple of laser towers on hilltops can quickly become your best friends. When building bases, look for terrain that is easy to defend, good hills to see and shoot from, and minimal invasion routes into your base. Use combined forces to your advantage. Utilize your aerial forces to help guard some ground forces and vice versa. Learn your unit's strengths and weaknesses and how to support each with the proper force. Mix ballistic trajectory weapons with direct fire weapons. Mix aerial units with your fleets. Always have some form of anti-submarine protection with every fleet. Heavy Laser Towers, especially when grouped, are serious forces to be reckoned with. However, they gulp down large amounts of energy with each shot, so be careful with resources. Missile Towers, though they have a fairly long range, should only be built in a group, as they are weak. Heavy Plasma Cannons have a great range and do extensive damage, but have a very slow rate of fire. Once you've built your Big Bertha, start firing. You don't need to see your enemy to shoot at it, just start firing blindly and you'll eventually hit something. The use of a Scout plane is recommended for quickly scouting out targets, and then feeding them to Big Bertha. Force-fire your Pyro to lead the enemy. If aimed directly, their slow rate of fire will miss the enemy as it moves. |
